Before you begin training, you must be able to answer YES to all of the questions below.
- Does your dog know his marker word?
- Does your dog understand your communication system?
- Does your dog want to be with you?
- Does your dog want what you have?
- Is your dog focused on you?
- Does your dog ignore distractions?
If you answered no to any of the questions above, you're not ready to train and your dog is not ready to learn.
Be advised, engagement is a learned behavior. You need to learn it, and so does your dog. Engagement is one of the first lessons we cover in training.
